The CELI exams are organized by the University for Foreigners of Perugia and are divided into five levels. The CELI Certificate is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Foreign Affairs, but also by various organizations around the world. The test consists of the production of written texts, reading comprehension, linguistic competence, listening comprehension and oral production.

The Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language (CILS) a certification issued by the University of Siena for studying the Italian language. It is divided into different levels of competence. The certification is recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is often used to attest the knowledge of Italian required for academic purposes. The test is divided into four sections: listening, reading comprehension, written production and analysis of communicative structures.

A1

Beginner

Learners can interact in the context of short questions and answers about themselves, their home and family. Those who pass the test can understand and produce simple phrases in areas of immediate priority.

A2

Elementary

Learners must have developed the language skills necessary to be able to start interacting in an Italian-speaking environment. At level A2 students can exchange basic information on familiar and routine matters related to work and free time, and can describe situations and past events in a simple way.

B1

Intermediate

Learners must have developed linguistic skills that can be managed in widely predictable situations of social and work life in an Italian context. They can interact with some confidence on familiar routine and non-routine matters related to their interest and professional field. They can also express dreams and hopes in a simple way, give reasons and explanations.

B2

Upper intermediate

Learners must have developed such linguistic skills not only to travel easily in Italy, but also to work and enrol in courses of study in an Italian context. Difficulties may arise in unfamiliar situations or when the use of a more specific language is required. Learners interact with relative fluency and spontaneity on a wide range of topics, they can account for and sustain views clearly by providing relevant explanations and arguments.

The Ministry of Education, University and Research recognizes CELI 3 as a valid certificate to attest the knowledge of the Italian language necessary to enrol in the University in Italy in the quota that each University allocates to foreign students.

 

C1

Advanced

Lo studente deve aver sviluppato abilità linguistiche tali da poter lavorare ed iscriversi a corsi di studio anche di livello universitario e/o post-universitario in contesto italiano ed essere in grado di interagire anche in situazioni non familiari o quando venga richiesto l’utilizzo di un linguaggio più specifico.
I livelli C1 si esprimono in modo scorrevole spontaneo e vario sia in contesti lavorativi ed accademici sia in contesti di socializzazione.

C2

Language proficiency level

The student must have developed linguistic skills to enable a successful integration in an Italian context.

C2 level are able to perform effectively in any academic or professional setting. They can convey finer shades of meaning precisely, even in the most complex situations.
